Tools in a working salon get used dozens of times a day and disinfected between every client. What matters is whether they survive that: whether a file keeps its grit, whether a brush keeps its shape after acetone, whether a handle stays sealed.
Grit, and when to use it
100/180 is for shaping and reducing product on enhancements. 180/240 refines that shape. Anything finer is for the natural nail, and nothing below 180 should ever touch a natural nail plate.
Hygiene
Metal implements should be washable and autoclavable. Files that cannot be disinfected are single-client items and should be treated as such - the cost of replacing them is far lower than the cost of a cross-contamination incident.
