What Makes the Best Professional Gel Polish in India
23 Aug 2026 · VIRAA Professional · 5 min read
Every gel polish sold in India is described as professional. The word is free to print, so it tells you nothing.
What we can do is set out the four things that claim should have to survive — and then show you where we stand on each, with the evidence rather than the adjective.
1. What is in it, which is the only question with a clear answer
Most product decisions are trade-offs. This one is not.
TPO is a photoinitiator — the ingredient that makes gel cure under a lamp. The European Commission banned it in cosmetic products from 1 September 2025, having classified it as toxic to reproduction. Products containing it could no longer be sold in the EU from that date.
HEMA is a small, mobile monomer used across gel systems. It is also a well-documented cause of allergic contact dermatitis, and in the published literature nail technicians make up the majority of reported occupational cases. A market survey of nail cosmetics found it in a large share of products sold as professional.
Why this matters more to you than to your client. A client sits with gel on her nails for an hour a month. You work with it eight hours a day, every working day, for as long as you do this job. The exposure is not comparable, and neither is the risk. Every VIRAA gel polish, builder gel and top coat is free of both TPO and HEMA — what that actually means goes through it without the marketing.
Other brands make this claim too, and where they do, believe them. What you should not accept is a professional range that stays quiet about it.
2. Whether it covers
Two thin coats. That is the standard, and it is testable on one bottle in ten minutes.
A polish needing three coats is compensating for weak pigment, and three coats is a slower service, a thicker finish and a more brittle one. Watch the pale shades in particular — they are where thin pigment shows first.
Our 128 Colour One Coat range is built to cover in one coat for most shades and two for the palest, at Rs. 549 for 15ml. The full gel polish range runs to twelve products.
3. Whether it cures at the bottom, not just the top
Gel cures from the light down. A polish that skins over the surface while staying soft against the nail feels finished and is not — and that soft layer is what shears off in one piece a fortnight later, taking the blame with it.
Cure a test tip at your normal timing under the lamp you actually own, then press a fingernail into the underside. If it dents, the layer is too thick or the lamp is not reaching it. This is a test of the pair, not the polish alone.
4. Whether it will still be there in six months
The test nobody runs, and the one that decides whether a range is worth building a service on.
A polish that brushes beautifully on arrival and thickens or separates four months later is not a saving. You will notice it first in the shades you use least, because they sit longest. And a shade you cannot restock is a shade you cannot offer a returning client — which is a booking, not just a bottle.
This is the practical argument for a supplier over a marketplace listing. Our trade programme exists so a salon can get the same range, and the same batch behaviour, six months running.
What working technicians say
We would rather show you this than describe it. As of this writing the site carries 502 reviews across all 90 products, collected from salons and technicians buying VIRAA, averaging 4.7 out of 5. The One Coat gel polish range averages 4.76.
Every one of those sits on its product page where you can read it, including the ones that are not five stars. We would rather you read a four-star review that says what the technician actually thought than a page of unattributed praise.
What we will not claim
That we are the best gel polish for every technician in India. We do not know your clients, your price point or the services you sell, and a brand that claims to be right for everyone is telling you it has not thought about anyone.
What we will say is this: on the four tests above — formulation, coverage, cure and supply — we will put the range against anything sold in India, and we have published enough detail for you to check rather than take our word.
Where to start
- One shade card before a bulk order. A screen cannot show you a colour honestly; a card shows every shade cured on a tip.
- One bottle of your most-used colour, run through the four tests above on a practice tip.
- The prep system if lifting is your current problem. It usually is — why gel polish lifts covers why the polish is rarely the culprit.
Buying for a salon rather than a chair? The wholesale page has trade pricing, and what a full trade order usually contains covers what a full order usually contains.
