How to choose a purple gel polish
Purple has a wider reach than people think. A pale lavender is soft and almost neutral, a lilac is sweet and a little playful, a violet is bold, and a deep plum is as rich and wearable as a wine red. Searches for purple and lavender nails are among the steadiest in nail art.
This page puts every purple and lavender we sell in one place, across gel polish and the other gels in the range. Each opens on its own product page with the shade selected. For other colours see pink, blue and red, and for the whole range gel polish.
Pale, bright or deep
Lavender and lilac are pale and cool, and sit close to a grey or a pastel. Violet and bright purple are saturated and make a statement. Plum and aubergine are deep and wearable, and come close to a wine red in how they read. Choose by how much you want the colour to be noticed.
Purple and the skin
Cool lavenders and lilacs tend to flatter fair and cool skin, and look soft and clean. Warmer, redder purples, such as plum, suit golden and deeper skin tones and look rich against them. Hold the photo beside your hand in daylight and choose the shade that makes the skin look brighter.
Lavender behaves like white
A pale lavender shows brush marks and uneven coverage the way a white does. Apply over a base coat, such as the Viraa Pro Base Coat, use thin coats, keep the brush flat and moving, and cure each coat before the next. The base coat vs top coat guide explains why. A deep plum needs thin coats for the opposite reason: thick dark pigment cures on the surface and stays soft underneath.
Ways to wear it
- Purple cat eye. The cat eye gels include a purple among their shades. See cat eye gel polish and the cat eye guide.
- Purple and silver. A lilac or violet with a silver glitter accent looks cool and clean; see glitter gel polish.
- Matte plum. A matte top coat turns a plum velvety. The matte top coat guide covers it.
- Lavender French. A pale lavender tip on a nude or milky base is a soft, modern French. See nude and milky white.
