Chrome Nail Powder and Mirror Top Coats
A chrome nail is a finished gel set with a thin film of metallic powder buffed onto its surface, then sealed. The effect is dramatic and the technique is quick, but it only works with the right materials in the right order: the powder, a top coat it can grip, and a top coat to seal it. This category holds all three.
What you need
- Viraa Pro Mirror Chrome Powder - a rub-on chrome powder in five shades, buffed onto a cured no-wipe top coat with an applicator for a mirrored metallic finish.
- No Wipe Top Coat - the layer the powder goes onto. It cures without a tacky layer, which the powder needs to rub on evenly.
- Magic Mirror Top Coat and the Viraa Pro Mirror Top Coat - reflective finishing gels for chrome and metallic effects, and for a high-shine seal over art.
- Universal Mirror Cat Eye Gel - a magnetic mirror effect for when you want movement as well as shine.
The method
- Prep, apply base coat and your colour, and cure. A dark colour gives the deepest mirror.
- Apply a no-wipe top coat and cure it. Do not wipe it.
- Rub the chrome powder into the cured surface with an applicator until it is smooth and even.
- Brush away the excess, then apply a further layer of top coat over the chrome and cure to seal it.
That last layer matters. Unsealed chrome rubs off within a few days of washing hands. Where the sealing layer goes over metallic powder, a mirror-finish top coat keeps the reflectivity high. The full walk-through, with the products matched to each step, is in chrome nails: mirror powder, products and method, and the difference between finishes is explained in gel top coat finishes compared.
For magnetic movement see cat eye gel polish; for sparkle, glitter gel polish. The complete top and base coat range and the nail art category have the rest.
